Verona is often associated with William Shakespeare, although it has never been proven that he actually visited Verona himself it is nevertheless the setting for three of his most well known works; Romeo and Juliet, The Two Gentlemen of Verona and The Taming of the Shrew. Regardless of whether you are searching for your star crossed lover or not you will find plenty to do in the bustling city. The remarkably well-preserved 1st-century amphitheater at its heart is a yearly venue for a summer opera festival and is surrounded by countless churches, galleries and a couple of architecturally renowned bridges over the Adige.
Local food and wine from the Veneto region is widely available and if after all that food and drink you fancy leaving the hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours and connecting with nature then the stunningly beautiful Lake Garda is just a short hop away.
