Use of oxygen onboard

Any passengers requiring oxygen onboard bmi flights must order it from bmi at least 48 hours in advance of travel.

When you request oxygen for a passenger you will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Why is the oxygen required?
  • Is the oxygen required constantly or intermittently?
  • What rate of oxygen do they require (i.e. how many litres per minute)?
  • Has the passenger flown before whilst using oxygen?
  • Will the passenger be accompanied during the flight?

Please be aware of the following:

  • 48 hours notice is required for all requests
  • Customers requiring oxygen on scheduled flights must complete medical forms for the company doctor's approval prior to the booking being accepted. Each case is reviewed individually
  • The passenger must be accompanied by someone capable of administering the oxygen in cases where the passenger is not able to self administer
  • A charge of £100 will be made, this charge is per sector travelled. Note: this charge does not currently apply to bmi regional flights.
  • bmi charter make a charge of £200 - any customer requiring oxygen should arrange this directly through the bmi charter department on 08702 40 70 40.
  • This service will not be chargeable for children under 12 years of age

Please note the above does not apply to carriage of oxygen on Astraeus aircraft: Customers are not permitted to carry pressurised oxygen/air cylinders as hold or cabin baggage on Astraeus aircraft. The only exception to this restriction is for small oxygen/air cylinders which have been advised in advance of travel to Astraeus customer services in Gatwick, are no larger than 5 kilos gross weight and are being carried for use by a qualified medical person (i.e. nurse, doctor etc).

For further information or to make an oxygen booking call the travel trade helpline on 0871 224 4224 (UK) or 01 407 3036 (ROI).
