Items of baggage included in the list below are regarding as exceptional items of baggage and on short haul routes, depending on the fare purchased, you will be charged extra to carry these items.
Exceptional items of baggage are charged at £15 per item. If the journey has been booked on a single ticket but requires that the passenger goes via another location i.e. EDI-LHR-AMS they will only be charged once outbound and once inbound. If they choose to book the same journey but on separate tickets i.e. EDI-LHR, LHR-AMS they will be charged £15 per item for each sector of the journey. In this case they will be charged twice on the outbound and twice on the inbound journey.
The total weight of these items must not exceed 20kgs and anything in excess will be charged as excess baggage. If the passengers are travelling in business or premium economy on short haul routes, then exceptional items will be carried free, if total weight of all checked baggage does not exceed the total weight allowance.
Exceptional items of baggage on long haul flights, if within the baggage allowance will be carried free of charge. If the item is outside the baggage allowance the item is charged per piece at the same rate as excess baggage (see below).

Excess baggage on bmi operated domestic and european flights is charged at £7.00 per kg outbound, and £7.00 per kg inbound. If the journey has been booked on a single ticket but requires that you go via another location i.e. EDI-LHR-AMS the passenger will only be charged once outbound and once inbound. If they choose to book the same journey but on separate tickets i.e. EDI-LHR, LHR-AMS they will be charged £7.00 per kg for each sector of the journey. In this case again the passenger would be charged twice on the outbound and twice on the inbound journey.
If your passenger is travelling long haul on bmi operated services the following are indicative charges that will apply ex UK: Chicago £70 per piece; Caribbean and Las Vegas: £90 per piece; Heathrow to Mumbai: £23.30 per kilo; Riyadh: £17.50 per kilo. Please advise passenger accordingly.
If the passenger is travelling on non-bmi operated (codeshare) flights, or connecting to a codeshare flight, excess baggage charges will apply and are calculated on an individual route basis - please contact our the trade helpline on 0870 606 1000 for advice.

extra baggage allowance for frequent flyers
bmi gold and silver Diamond Club and Star Alliance gold members are entitled to an additional checked baggage (hold) allowance on bmi operated flights as follows: 20kg (44lbs) for UK domestic and european flights (excluding silver Diamond Club passengers travelling on tiny fares. 1 additional piece for long haul flights. Single items must not exceed 32kg (70lbs).
