Christmas crackers may be carried in small quantities in either checked or hand baggage, subject to being in the original unopened manufacturer’s packaging and made by a reputable company. No handmade crackers are acceptable. Max: 12 crackers per passenger.
Television
Dead game birds/dead fish
Dead game birds and dead fish if for personal consumption and in small quantities can be carried in cabin baggage - they should be vacuum shrink wrapped and carried within the passenger's cabin baggage.
Larger quantities may be carried as hold baggage provided the birds/fish are sealed, do not give off unpleasant odours and do not represent any health hazard to the aircraft or its passengers.
There are no recognised containers for their carriage and bmi check-in staff will use their discretion.
Please note, animals presented for carriage which do not fall into this category should be referred to the Cargo department or bmi dangerous goods manager for approval to travel, as there are restrictions in place which may prohibit carriage.
Cigarette lighters
One small packet of safety matches or a cigarette lighter that does not contain unabsorbed liquid fuel, other than liquefied gas, may be carried about your person. Strike anywhere matches are forbidden on all air transport.
Human remains
Human remains may only be accepted for travel as airfreight. Enquires regarding carriage should be directed to our Cargo Department.
Ashes may be carried as checked or cabin baggage, providing security are satisfied with the contents of the container.
Samples and collections
Samples and collections may be accepted as registered baggage but bmi will not be liable for the transportation unless they are covered by insurance.
On international flights, customs regulations prohibit the import or export of merchandise in passenger's baggage. All merchandise must be shipped as airfreight and the appropriate charges raised.

Powered wheelchairs
A wheelchair with a non-spillable battery (dry cell) can be accepted in the hold provided:
Note: Wheelchair/mobility aids with gel type batteries do not require the battery to be disconnected provided the battery terminal is insulated to prevent accidental short circuit.
