The Great British Lounge
Our flagship International Business Lounge, The Great British Lounge, has been designed with customer comforts in mind and provides a stylish environment in which to work, relax, dine and refresh.
The Great British Lounge is the perfect stop for bmi customers connecting to any of bmi's international destinations where they can choose to relax, refresh or rehydrate between flights and enjoy some homely British comforts.
Find a zone to suit your mood
The space is divided into informal zones that cater to the varying needs of the international traveller - the emphasis being on providing a sense of comfort and familiarity.
Customers can sit back and relax in our lounge, offering comfortable seating and newspapers, catch up on some work in our study with wi-fi access and individual desks, or get into bed for a sleep in the comfort of our Slumber area. There are shower facilities provided and complimentary toiletries are replenished throughout the day.
An informal, but sophisticated British pub environment is created in The Local where customers can unwind around a welcoming leather-buttoned horseshoe shaped bar and help themselves to a choice of branded beverages including Fullers London Pride ale and English rosé wine in keeping with the strong British theme.
The Cafe is centred around a stunning custom-made black Aga where steaming hot soup is available all day as well as a range of delicious food around the clock. Customers can enjoy:
- Soup and a selection breads
- A choice of fresh sandwiches
- Salads and pasta, and salad dressings created by the renouned chef Mark Hix
- Mark Hix ice cream - caramel and honeycomb chocolate or Blueberry and Dorset Honey flavours
The styling and design throughout the lounge also emphasises Britain's best, both traditional and contemporary. Materials and colours are rich and sensual - reinforcing the indulgent, yet welcoming atmosphere.
Lounge dining and night-time supper service
We are pleased to announce that our new lounge dining and supper menu is now available to Business Class customers flying on the night-time service to Moscow.
From 8.30pm every day, your customers can help themselves to a three-course meal including:
- Hot soup and bread rolls
- Macaroni cheese
- Selection of salads and hot pasta
- Hot salt beef, bagels, rye bread, pickles
- English cheese board
- Mark Hix ice cream

Where to find The Great British Lounge
The Great British Lounge is located above Gate 5 in Terminal 1 and is open from 5am to 10pm. It does not feature a reception desk - instead customers are welcomed inside by members of the Lounge Team.

- Diamond Club Gold and Silver card members
- bmi Business Class customers
- Economy Flexible shorthaul passengers (YBMI/BM)
- Flexible Economy shorthaul passengers
- Star Alliance Gold, 1st and Business passengers.
