UMNRs help guide

Unaccompanied Minor forms must be completed for each direction of a journey, including all interline details for transferring to onward flights.

The forms are to be completed in full by a parent or guardian, prior to handing over custody of the child to bmi. The information includes:

  • Child’s full name
  • Age
  • Sex of Child
  • Languages spoken
  • Any allergies or special needs
  • Flight Details
  • Whether child is a first time flyer
  • Full details of departure and arrival escorts.

The parent or guardian must complete and sign the declaration on all copies of the form and retain a copy for their personal records.

All personal details, travel and contact details must be completed in block capitals and be fully legible on all copies.

Up to 7 copies of the form may be needed for some journeys. These may be retained as follows:

  • 1. Travels with the child
  • 2. Retained by Parent/Guardian
  • 3. Retained by bmi on departure – return – to be kept on file at station
  • 4. Retained by bmi on handover of child to Parent/Guardian on arrival
  • 5. Retained on handover of child to another carrier - a transfer airline
  • 6. Retained by bmi on handover of child to Parent/guardian on arrival – return journey
  • 7. Retained by bmi on departure.

The forms will be placed in an unaccompanied minor pouch for travel.

The bmi staff receiving the child at the departure station will check that the appropriate fees have been paid, then sign and tick the box to indicate this.

Please note that ID is checked and signatures and staff numbers obtained for all personnel who escort the child. This gives the parent/guardian confidence in the airline representatives at each stage of the child’s journey.

bmi to bmi transfers

Document copies to be retained:

  1. At the arrival station
  2. By the bmi representative handling the flight transfer
  3. For handing over of the child to the parent/guardian at the destination.

UMNR’s must be NOT be issues on separate tickets, they must be booked on through tickets if they are connecting’

bmi to other carriers

Document copies to be completed and held by:    

  • The representative of the other carrier when taking over guardianship for the UNMR
  • bmi staff at the transfer point who will enter their details and staff number then retain a copy on the station/flight file.

arrival and handover

bmi staff at the arrival station must check the ID of the Parent/Guardian detailed on the form before handing over custody of the child. 

The parent/guardian signs for receipt of the child.

A copy of the signed declaration and the UNMR’s details is retained on the station/flight file.
