What is interline electronic ticketing?
An e-ticket is a virtual, paperless ticket for general use. They are stored in a database rather than printed and distributed to a customer in a paper format.
Interline e-ticket enables a passenger to use e-ticket on an interline journey where more than one carrier is involved in the itinerary for example, Glasgow – London Heathrow – Vancouver where the first sector of the journey is operated by bmi and the second is operated by Air Canada
Computer messaging is used to send the information between the other carriers in the itinerary.

Which airlines has bmi implemented interline e-ticketing for infants?
bmi also offers interline e-tickets for infants without a seat on a number of carriers identified from the above list by a *. This listing is regularly updated. Here are some simple guide lines to follow:
If all segments in a booking are "booked" (does not have to be "operated") with any of the above carrier codes and flight number and the "E" indicator is next to all segments, then an e-ticket can be issued.
Guide to interline e-ticketing
If any other carrier's flight is booked then a paper ticket must be issued.
If all segments are with any of the above carrier codes but one or more segment does not have the "E" indicator then again a paper ticket must be issued.
You may see other airlines segments with an E indicator in a PNR, but if the airline is not in the above list it will have to be a paper ticket.
Other rules for interline e-ticket:
- No name changes at all
- IET tickets cannot be revalidated, they can only be reissued. Revalidation function is to be available soon
- No industry discount (ID) tickets. With LO, NZ, BA, VS, BE, LX and AC we can now issue DUTY travel ID e-tickets
Note:
- Frequent flyer redemption tickets can be issued as interline e-tickets. Same rules apply.
- Tickets with open segments can be issued. Most partners require minimum of one confirmed segment. BA and VS do not. Customer requires the ticket number.
- E-ticket with passive segments. Ticket number must be added to PNR where space is held.
- Group bookings - e-ticket to be issued in batches of nine.
- Infants: We can now issue interline e-tickets for infants on airlines marked with a * above.
