Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport is located 35 kilometres north of the city centre. Pick up an official taxi, where the 30-minute metered fare to the city will cost around SR 70-90. Avoid the private taxis unless you're prepared to negotiate the price before you start your journey.
Stay at one of the many excellent hotels or serviced apartments. The 5-star Intercontinental in the Al-Mather quarter is a good option if you're travelling for work, with a dedicated business centre and gym. Note that public transport is limited, buses are complicated to use with no marked stops and are mainly used by trade workers.
The Olaya District is the heart of the city and the best place for accommodation, shopping and nightlife. Visit the Al Faisaliyah Center - the first skyscraper in Saudi Arabia. The golden ball at the very top of the tower houses a restaurant and the outside viewing deck below is a must-see. The Diplomatic Quarter (DQ) is one of the greenest areas of the city and home to foreign embassies and political organizations as well as sports facilities and retail outlets. Renowned for its fine architecture, it's a model for other Islamic cities around the world.
