Hotels in Khartoum

Stay at the stunning 5-star Burj al fateh. This new 250-room hotel is the best in Khartoum and is ideal if you're travelling on business. With several high-quality restaurants and a tranquil day spa and fitness centre, it's a peaceful sanctuary from the stresses of the city.  The inexpensive Bougainvilla Guesthouse is ideally located between the airport and the Blue Nile. Air-conditioning is standard and is wi-fi available. The light and airy roof terrace is lovely and provides the perfect setting for breakfast.

Sample a taste of Africa

For a culinary experience to remember eat at Kandahar, in the souq Libya. Select the meat that you want to eat, then hand to the chef to be prepared while you watch. While visiting, travel west along Nile Street from the Presidential Palace for about 4km to view the confluence of the Blue and White Nile (known locally as Al-Mogran). Legend is that you can actually see the two colours come together and flow separately before they merge together, forming the Nile.

For a taste of real Khartoum, head straight for the bustling Souq Arabi. This fascinating Arabian market, just south of the Great Mosque (Mesjid al-Kabir), sells everything you could think of and is the best place to buy gold. It's a great place to people-watch; where locals meet and go about their everyday lives.  Do visit the Sufi dancing which takes place at the Ghobba al-Hamed al-Nil every Friday at 4pm. This vibrant and exciting celebration must be seen, just make sure you take your camera.

There's something for everyone in Khartoum so book your flights now with bmi and enjoy everything this Sudanese treasure has to offer.
