E-tickets

E-tickets are issued as standard on most bmi routes.

E-ticket or electronic ticket securely stores ticket details making ticketing faster, secure and convenient.  You don't have to wait to receive your ticket in the post or collect at the ticket desk, it's easy to check-in using our self Check-in Machines or web points or you can check-in online from home or at the airport on many routes.

E-ticket exceptions

We are rolling out e-ticket across our network, however on some routes where e-ticket is not yet available, you will be issued with a paper ticket.  If you're travelling to, from or via any of the following bmi operated destinations, you will be issued with a paper ticket.  Paper tickets will be posted to you or held for collection at the departure airport or in some cases at the local sales office.

If part of your bmi operated journey does not include one of these airports or routes listed, then you will be issued with an e-ticket as standard.

What is an e-ticket?
An e-ticket - or electronic ticket - is a virtual, paperless ticket. Bookings are made in the normal way but the ticket details are held and stored electronically rather than being printed on paper.

If I don't receive a ticket, will I get any other confirmation so I can check my booking has been made correctly?
We recommend you print out the confirmation page and make a note of your booking confirmation reference. You can check your flight details are correct from your confirmation page. In addition to this we will send an email to you confirming your booking and payment details.

Do I need this confirmation to check-in at the airport?
We recommend that you bring this to the airport, but it's not necessary for you to check-in with. All that you need for check-in is the form of identification that was used at the time the booking was made.

What is considered a valid form of identification?
A credit, debit, or frequent flyer card. Please note a passport is required for all international travel. Find out more about forms of ID .

How do I know which routes e-tickets are available on?
If e-tickets are available on the route, they will be issued as standard.

Why can an e-ticket be purchased on some routes and not others?
This is due to check-in system constraints. We're continually reviewing the opportunities to increase the number of routes where e-ticket is available.

What are the advantages of purchasing an e-ticket?
It's safe - an e-ticket cannot be lost or stolen. It's easy - you can buy and make changes to your e-ticket over the telephone. It's quick - you no longer have to collect the ticket form our ticket desk or wait to receive it by post.

What happens if I want to change to travel with another airline?
All you need to do is go along to a bmi ticket desk. Here a paper ticket will be issued for you and endorsed for another airline (provided this is in line with the fare rules).

Are e-tickets available for all ticket and passenger types?
We offer e-tickets on all fares regardless of the class of travel and price paid. e-tickets are available on: infant, child, senior citizen and student tickets.

Is an e-ticket the same as a ticket on departure (TOD)?
No. An e-ticket is paperless. When you book an e-ticket you don't need to go to a ticket desk, just proceed straight to check-in and identify yourself with your booking reference and surname or the credit card used to make the booking. A TOD has to be collected at a ticket desk. Next time you book at short notice (within five days of travel) you will be sold an e-ticket rather than a TOD.

Can I request a paper ticket on an e-ticket route?
Paper tickets can be issued on an e-ticket route but a €35 fee per ticket applies.* If you've booked via flybmi.com on an e-ticket route and you ask for a paper ticket, then the fare will be requoted including any additional fees.

*For tickets issued by travel agents in the UK, paper tickets issued on bmi e-ticket routes will be subject to a fee of £25.00.
