If you are travelling to the USA, it is important to familiarise yourself with the entry requirements
Under the Visa Waiver Programme you may travel to the United States for touristic or business purposes without the requirement to obtain a US visa providing your stay does not exceed 90 days. Citizensof the following countries are eligible to use VWP following a successful application through the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA):
Under the Visa Waiver Program, the United States Department of Homeland Security requires citizens of qualifying VWP countries to obtain travel authorisation, prior to initiating travel to the United States. This authorisation may be obtained online through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), using a Web-based application form administered by the Department of Homeland Security. Please note that there is now a $14 (approx £9) charge administered by the Department of Homeland Security.
ESTA applies only to those VWP travellers entering the United States by air or sea and is not required for those already in possession of a valid US Visa or Residency Card. The Department of Homeland Security recommends applications be submitted at least 72 hours prior to travel. Without authorisation you may be refused travel. Once your registration is successful, it will be valid for multiple entries for a period of two years, or until the expiry of your passport, whichever comes first.
For more information, take a look at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website. Alternatively, you can apply for your ESTA now.
