Health and Safety

EU citizens should apply for a European Health Insurance Card before departure, which entitles them to free or reduced cost treatment in all EU countries. This only covers emergency treatment so comprehensive travel and medical insurance are strongly advised.

Flights to Stockholm arrive at Arlanda Airport. Stylish, efficient Arlanda Express trains (420 SEK) are a fitting introduction, making the 30-mile trip to Stockholm Central Station in just 20 minutes. Buses (179 SEK return) are cheap and frequent but journey times to the city centre are twice as long. Taxis (400 SEK) are readily available and arrangements are typically Swedish: taxis registered as environmentally clean have a separate queue.

Nobel Museum

Wander the Old Town, Gamla Stan, where you'll discover narrow cobbled alleys and pedestrian streets weaving between medieval houses and shops on an island linked by bridges to the rest of the city. The historic old town is also home to the Royal Palace, Stockholm Cathedral, The Nobel Museum, which celebrates Nobel Prize winners through the decades, and Stortorget - the city's prettiest square, where locals and tourists stop to watch the world go by with coffee or beer.

Vasa Museum

Vasa Museum: Historians will love this modern gallery, which houses a 64-gun 17th-century warship that sank in Stockholm harbour on its maiden voyage. It has been restored to its full former glory.

Grand Hotel

Island life: On a steamer excursion around Stockholm archipelago, you'll find 30,000 islands stretching 80km out to sea with pretty villages of painted houses perched on rocky shores, sandy beaches, friendly bars and seafood restaurants. Historic steamboats and fast modern ferries leave from outside the historic Grand Hotel.

Quick Lunch - Grill
