Bergen Fish Market

Norway is known for its fish. Bergen’s fish market is a world famous tourist attraction that features delicious, fresh from the sea fare, including oysters. The convivial atmosphere and array of fine cuisine makes this market a favourite for those who enjoy bustling outdoor scenes with the potential for interaction with lively locals. Located in the heart of Bergen, the fish market informs the rest of the town. Other merchants and specialised vendors populate the market; street performers occasionally stroll through, adding to the overall atmosphere.

Bergen Byspill, the City Theatre

Unlike other city theatres that have a structure or dedicated stage, Bergen’s Byspill is a roving theatre of performers who engage in a drama that plays out across the city streets. The theatre chooses locations throughout the city at random and puts on performances, plays, and other acts to amuse and entertain the populace. The troupe also has an educational component, taking on young students and amateurs who wish to learn how to become a thespian, or simply join in on the fun. The theatre emphasizes scenes as opposed to long dialogues, making it easy to understand the action no matter what language observers speak. The city’s theatre tradition dates back to the 1500’s, making this a particularly enjoyable and historic Bergen experience.
