Flights to Hanover arrive at Hanover airport, situated nine miles north of the city centre. Local trains (€2.70) run every 30 minutes direct from the airport station to Hanover main station with journey times of 18 minutes. Taxis to the city centre and main business districts costs from €25.

Herrenhäuser Gardens

Herrenhäuser Gardens: These showpiece gardens offer a tranquil oasis in the heart of Hanover. Hop on metro trains U4 or U5 to Herrenhäuser Gärten and head straight for the stylish baroque Grosser Garten where you can explore a 50-hectare landscape of horticultural delights. With time to spare, stroll on to the nearby Berggarten, which is not as mountainous as its name might imply! Both gardens are open daily from 9am.

Wilhelm-Busch-Museum

The Wilhelm-Busch-Museum/German Museum for Caricature & Critical Drawing : Housed in Wallmoden Palace in the Georgengarten, this entertaining museum features a collection of work by German satirical artist Wilhem Busch and exhibitions by contemporary cartoonists.

New Town Hall

New Town Hall (2 Trammplatz): Hanover's greatest modern architectural landmark is situated just south of the city centre. It warrants a look, and don't miss a ride on the strangely curved lift that will whisk you 50 metres up to the top of a dome for views that, on good days, extend to the Harz Mountains.
