Health and Safety

EU citizens should apply for a European Health Insurance Card before departure, which entitles them to free or reduced cost treatment in all EU countries. This only covers emergency treatment so comprehensive travel and medical insurance are strongly advised

Flights to Brussels touch down at Brussels Airport. Trains to the city centre (€2.90) depart every 15 minutes and take 30 minutes. Taxis (€35) are readily available and journey time is around 30 minutes. Brussels has an excellent metro, tram and bus system, and most sites in the centre can easily be reached on foot.

Grand Place

Grand Place: One of the best preserved baroque squares in Europe, Grand Place is lined with elegant 14th-century guildhalls, topped by ornate gilded statues. At 44 Rue au Beurre, you'll find Galler, one of the best chocolatiers in Belgium. Close by is the famous statue of the Manneken Pis (corner of Rue de l'Étuve), often adorned with a seasonal costume. Further north, the Galerie de la Reine and Galerie du Roi are beautiful 19th-century arcades with numerous cafes and shops.

The Musical Instruments Museum This charming gallery exhibits and plays a huge range of instruments from all over the world. The café on the fifth floor has one of the best views of Brussels.

The Atomium

The Atomium: To get a glimpse of the modern face of the city, take the 94 tram ride to the Atomium and see the recently refurbished huge statue of an atomic structure built for the 1958 Expo.
