Baggage Allowance
If you are travelling in Business, or Flexible Economy, you can take a piece of sports equipment, or other exceptional item of baggage, as long as it does not exceed your total baggage allowance.
Economy (bmi Operated Routes Only)
If travelling on an Economy ticket, you will charged a flat rate of £30 per item, per direction of travel*, for any sports equipment you wish to take with you, which weighs up to 20kg†.
If the item weighs over 20kg, but falls below 32kg, an additional £30 will be charged per item, per direction of travel.
Business Class & Flexible Economy (bmi Operated Routes Only)
If travelling on a Business Class or Flexible Economy ticket, you can take sports equipment with you, free of charge, as long as it does not exceed your total baggage allowance.
If however, you have exceeded your free allowance, you will charged a flat rate of £30 per item, per flight sector‡, for any item you wish to take with you, which weighs up to 20kg.
If the item weighs over 20kg, but falls below 32kg, an additional £30 will be charged per item, per flight sector.
* Direction of travel is defined as to the final bmi operated destination.
† Sporting goods may be included as part of the free allowance in Economy, for flights from London Heathrow to / from Agadir, Casablanca and Marrakech.
‡ A "sector" (sometimes also referred to as a "leg") is a part of a flight. As an example, a bmi flight from Edinburgh (EDI) to Basel (BSL), via London Heathrow (LHR) would consist of two flight sectors - Edinburgh to London Heathrow, followed by London Heathrow to Basel.

Additional Allowances
Flights to Basel
Customers are permitted to take a Winter sports allowance (in addition to normal baggage allowance) on the London Heathrow to Basel route.
In addition to the normal baggage allowance, customers are permitted to take either:
- One pair of ski boots, one pair ski poles and one pair of skis; or
- One snowboard and one pair of snowboard boots.
Please Note: Infants under 2 years of age are not eligible for the winter sports equipment allowance.
What Type Of Sports Equipment Can I Take?
You can bring most sports equipment with you (within your allowance); however, additional baggage fees may apply to oversized or overweight items. The following items are categorised as sporting equipment when travelling on bmi operated flights:

- Fishing Equipment
- Footballs / Basketballs / Rugby Balls, etc.
- Golfing Equipment
- Scuba Diving Equipment
- Skiing Equipment, Snowboards & Avalanche Rescue Backpacks
- Surfboards, Sailboards & Water Skis

Booking Items Online
The following items can be paid for online during the booking process or via 'Manage my booking' once a booking has been made:

Please Note: If your journey has been booked on a single ticket, but requires that you go via another location (for example, Edinburgh (EDI) to Berlin (BER) via London Heathrow (LHR)), you will only be charged once for the outbound journey and once coming back inbound.
If you choose to book the same journey, but on separate tickets (for example, Edinburgh (EDI) to London Heathrow (LHR), and then, London Heathrow (LHR) to Berlin (BER)), you will be charged £30 / €34 per item, for each sector of the journey. In this case, you would be charged twice going outbound and twice coming back inbound.
