Sporting equipment and other items

Sporting equipment and other items of baggage that require special handling may carry a charge, depending on the fare that you have purchased. 

The following are some of the most popular items where a charge may apply.

Golf equipmentOne pair of golf shoes and one golf bag with clubs
Skiing equipment/snowboardsOne pair of skis/poles/boots or snowboard and boots
BicyclesBicycle must be suitably packed
Fishing equipmentOne tackle box, rucksack or backpack, anglers basket, one rod bag or box
Surfboards/sail boards/water skisAccepted subject to aircraft hold space
CanoesAccepted subject to aircraft hold space
Musical instrumentsAccepted as hold baggage and items such as cellos will also be accepted in the aircraft cabin if an additional seat is purchased

Additional benefits

Our Business and Premium Economy fares allow you to take a piece of sporting equipment or other exceptional item of baggage as part of your baggage allowance as long as it is within your total allowance.

If you are travelling on an Economy fare you will be charged a flat fee of £25 per sector for each item. 

Gold and Silver Diamond Club members may carry an item of equipment for free if within weight allowance regardless of route or fare.

Any item between 21-32kg will be charged an additional fixed fee of £25 per sector.

Gold and Silver Diamond Club members may carry an item for free if within weight allowance regardless of route or fare.
 

Booking items online

The following items can be paid for online during the booking process or via 'Manage my booking' once a booking has been made.

  • Golfing equipment
  • Skiing/snowboard equipment
  • Bicycles

Please note that if your journey has been booked on a single ticket but requires that you go via another location i.e. Edinburgh-Heathrow-Amsterdam you will only be charged once outbound and once inbound. If you choose to book the same journey but on separate tickets i.e. Edinburgh-Heathrow and then, Heathrow-Amsterdam you will be charged £25 per item for each sector of the journey. In this case you would be charged twice on the outbound and twice on the inbound journey.

Firearms

Firearms and other weapons are subject to a £50 handling fee. The firearm will be carried subject to correct documentation and clearance by Customs or the Police and certain conditions including the following: the firearm is unloaded with all ammunition packed separately (max 5kgs); and the firearm packed in a strong box made of metal or fireboard.
