Flights to Toronto arrive at Toronto Pearson International Airport, which sits just west of the city centre. There is no rail link to the city (although a new station is planned), but there is an efficient Shuttle Bus service (C$30 return). Taxis (C$50) are readily available outside the arrivals hall.

The CN Tower

The CN Tower: It is impossible to miss the CN Tower, the city's most famous landmark. Formerly the world's tallest free-standing structure (it lost the title to the Burj Dubai in 2007), it stands 553 metres high (1815ft), and the views from its two observation decks are unsurprisingly tremendous. On a clear day you can even see the mist above Niagara Falls, 50 miles away.

The Royal Ontario Museum

The Royal Ontario Museum holds numerous nuggets of the past, from dinosaur bones to Egyptian artefacts.

Art Gallery Of Ontario

The Art Gallery Of Ontario hosts works by Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso.

Lap Of Luxury - Fairmont Royal York hotel

It may date back as far as 1929, but the Fairmont Royal York hotel still stands as Toronto's showpiece hotel. Maybe it's the ornate lobby with its mosaic floor and dark-wood décor. Maybe it's the fact that the Queen stays here when she is over from Britain. Either way, it is city accommodation par excellence.
