Flights to Mallorca arrive at the Son San Juan Palma de Mallorca Airport. Transfers to the city centre or harbour (8 kilometres) take around 20 minutes.  It is served by regular buses (€1.80), taxis and the Majorca Airport Transfers, a company licensed by The Balearic Tourism Council (€27.50). Car hire is readily available.

The Cathedral

The Cathedral. An iconic landmark on Palma's seafront, the cathedral is worth the hike up the stone stairs for a look inside. A Gothic structure, it is home to one of the world's largest stained glass windows with more than 1200 pieces of glass. Its Trinity Chapel contains the tombs of James II and James III, Kings of Mallorca.

Museu de Mallorca

Museu de Mallorca. Housed in a series of baroque town house-style buildings, this museum is a must if you want to know more about the city's past. There are archaeological finds, ceramic collections and pieces of industrial art to keep you hooked.

Castell de Bellver

Castell de Bellver. Although it's a bit of trek, the reward for the challenging uphill walk to the castle is a fab view over the city.  There are buses for the fainthearted. The 14th century castle has been many things – a Royal summer home, feared prison, armoury and now a history museum.

Quick Lunch - The Amano Bar

The Amano Bar (C/Sant Magi) is in the heart of the city, has a sophisticated café culture feel and is renowned for its fab olive oil dips and salad bar.

Top Table - a la carte at Chopin

A casual boast of having eaten a la carte at Chopin will impress – it's one of Palma's most stylish restaurants. Reservations are a good idea as it's usually bursting with chic A-list diners.

Cheap Eat - La Boveda

La Boveda is one of Palma's best-known tapas bars - and for good reason. Its selection is inexpensive and will be heaven for your tastebuds.

On Business - Hotel Saratoga

Evening Drinks - Shamrock

If the black stuff does it for you, head off to the Shamrock (Paseo Maritimo, 00 34 971 444 100), Palma de Mallorca's newest Irish bar. There's live jazz, pop and, of course, Irish music performed most evenings.
