Flights to Hamburg arrive at Hamburg airport. The express bus leaves for the central rail station every 15  minutes ( €5). The journey takes 45 minutes. Taxis take 30 minutes (€20). There is an excellent  metro, tram and bus system within the city.

Hafen City

Between the Elbe and the historic Speicherhaus warehouse district, Hafen city is a new area of shops, apartments and business premises where modern architecture blends with brick Gothic houses and small towers.

Maritime Museum

The newly opened Maritime Museum located in an old warehouse has more than 40,000 models of ships on five floors and gives a fascinating insight into Hamburg's history.

Fischmarkt

Close by, the Fischmarkt (137 Grosse Elbstrasse) sells far more than just fish, with a range of goods from plants to porcelain on sale by the river. From here boat trips leave every 15 minutes for a tour of the fascinating labyrinth of docks and canals – one of the largest inland harbours  in Europe.
