Flights to Cologne arrive at Köln-Bonn Airport, situated nine miles southeast of the city centre. Trains (€2.30) run every 20 minutes from the airport to Cologne main station (Hauptbahnhof), stopping en route at the Exhibition Grounds (Messe) at Deutz. Taxis (€30) are available outside the arrivals hall.

Cologne Cathedral

Cologne Cathedral: Overlooking Cologne's main station, the city's landmark attraction is open from 6am to 7.30pm daily, except during services. Highlights include its imposing Gothic façade, some breathtaking stained glass and the famous shrine to the Three Kings. Test your legs and lungs by climbing the south tower (daily 9am till late afternoon) for magnificent views over the city.

Wallraf-Richartz-Museum

Wallraf-Richartz-Museum: Situated near the town hall (Rathaus), this eclectic postmodern cube houses a fabulous collection of European art from Rembrandt and Rubens to 19th-century German Romanticism. It also exhibits many paintings of Cologne and the Rhine by local 15th-century artists.
