Health and Safety Policy

Only by consistently providing the standards of safety, quality and service demanded by our customers and by constantly striving to improve these standards can we continue to be a respected provider of travel and transport services.  Safety, Security and Quality are one of the core business functions, and represent the fundamental operational priorities, of this organisation regardless of the type of service, aircraft or location.

The bmi group is committed to the establishment and continued development of a positive safety culture and shall ensure the following:

  • Safety & Security & Quality shall be the prime operational objectives at all times
  • Adequate resources shall be provided to support this safety policy
  • All personnel shall be accountable for their conscious actions and decisions that affect safety.  It is the duty of all company personnel to comply with this policy and to strive to both maintain, and improve, our standards of safety, security and Quality at every opportunity
  • Recognition and acceptance of the impact that human factors and human performance limitations have on safety and security
  • Human errors - freely admitted - will not attract punitive action.  However, the company does not condone wilful misconduct or acts involving gross negligence and reserves the right to take action in these cases
  • Provision of appropriate training and assessment and monitoring of job skills
  • Aspire to current, general, industry safety ‘best-practices’ in all areas of the business.  The IOSA standard will be regarded as the benchmark
  • Encouragement of all personnel to report safety significant events, safety concerns and near-misses.  Moreover, personnel are encouraged to identify and report hazards before they become safety events.  All personnel have access to the company confidential reporting system including the reporting of human factor events
  • As an organisation we will encourage contractors to adopt comparable safety management principles and ensure their goods and services meet legal requirements and agreed standards
  • Third party service suppliers will also be required to ensure compliance with agreed security standards
  • Compliance with published Acts, Regulations, procedures and processes, both national and international, shall be the minimum requirement of the Group and its employees - our aspiration is to go beyond these where practicable.  In the case of security it is essential that managers monitor and ensure compliance with the Department for Transport (DfT), overseas authorities and company policies
  • Safety, Security and Quality auditors are granted unfettered access to all areas of the company necessary for the completion of auditing tasks
  • Managers and employees are required to provide the necessary co-operation to enable auditing tasks to be carried out.  This includes, where appropriate, taking responsibility for corrective and preventative actions resulting from Safety, Security, Quality or external/internal audit and investigation processes.
