bmi Group Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy

CSR is the integration of social and environmental concerns into the business of the bmi group and the company’s interactions with its stakeholders.

We can achieve this by tackling the challenge of addressing our wider environmental impacts by incorporating a corporate and systematic approach towards identifying these impacts, demonstrating continuous improvement and delivering wider benefits to our core business, stakeholders and the environment.

The bmi group of airlines, British Midland International, bmibaby and bmi regional will continue to build a culture where our staff, customers, suppliers and contractors recognise this commitment to operating on a long-term sustainable basis, with due regard to the communities around us and the wider environment.

We want to provide benefits to all our stakeholders and to be recognised as a favoured partner to do business with.

The bmi group is committed to establishing a CSR system, which is guided by the following principles:

  • Shared responsibility – CSR involves everyone in the bmi group and its stakeholders, which means sharing the responsibilities of ownership as well as its rewards
  • Openness and accountability – We will communicate our CSR policies, objectives and performance openly and honestly to our people, partners and other stakeholders. We will also seek their views and encourage them to communicate with us
  • Continuous improvement –We are committed to measuring and improving our CSR performance. We will develop and implement specific environmental and social policies and procedures, monitor our performance, set targets for improvement and report our progress
  • Demonstrate compliance – As a minimum we will meet or exceed all relevant legislation. Where no legislation exists, we will seek to develop and implement our own appropriate standards
  • Communities – To build relationships with our service users, and the local communities that we serve, and to support local social businesses who share our aims. In addition, the bmi group wants to encourage:
     - our people and those acting on our behalf, to consider the needs of others in our day to day business.
     - feedback from the local community on the bmi group CSR policies and programmes.

The chair of the CSR Strategy Group has a direct reporting line to the CEO and will inform him of any additional action needed to maintain the necessary standards of CSR management within the bmi group.
