Online check-in

Checking in online is simple and convenient and saves you time at the airport. Online Check-in is available on the majority of routes with only a few exceptions, see list below.

Print your boarding pass before you leave for the airport, drop any bags you have at the bmi Fast Bag Drop and go straight to departures. Online Check-in is available any time from 24 hours before your flight and up to 30 minutes before departure (please allow time to reach your departure gate before closure).

You can access online check-in several ways

  • Login to My account with your username and password where all your bookings will be displayed
  • Login to Manage my booking and enter your booking reference and surname
  • Go directly to Online check-in and enter your booking reference and surname
  • Follow the Online Check-in link within your '24 hours before you go' email
    • If the Online Check-in service is available for your booking and is open for check-in a ‘check-in online now' link will appear

You will be quickly be taken through the following

  • Passenger selection - you can check-in all or just some of your group
  • Seat selection
  • Print boarding pass
  • Print e-ticket receipt
  • Finish

If, for any reason, you are unable to print your boarding pass at the end of the Online Check-in process you can:

  • Email your boarding pass to a convenient email address and print once you have access to a printer
  • Print your boarding pass at the bmi Webpoints located at London Heathrow, Edinburgh and Glasgow
  • Collect your boarding pass from the bmi Check-in Desk at the airport

Online check-in is available on most routes

The following are bmi operated routes where Online Check-in is not currently available

Departures to and from

Antigua, Barbados, Chicago, Damascus, Dammam, Freetown, Jeddah, Khartoum, Las Vegas, Riyadh, Tehran, Yerevan

Departures from

Aleppo, Almaty, Bishkek, Copenhagen, Esbjerg, Groningen, Moscow, Palma, Zurich

Online Check-in without home print boarding pass**
Departures from

Addis Ababa, Amman, Baku, Beirut, Cairo, Tbilisi

Please note, all passengers printing their boarding cards at home and flying between the UK and the Republic of Ireland must present an acceptable form of photographic ID at security. When departing from Dublin, when you drop your bags at our Online Fast Bag Drop Desks, your printed boarding pass will be exchanged for a boarding card which will enable you to proceed through security.

**When checking-in you can select your seat, however no boarding pass will be available for printing - please go to the check-in desk at the airport to complete the check-in process.

Online Fast Bag Drops

We've introduced dedicated Fast Bag Drops designed especially for customers who check-in online.  These are currently available at Aberdeen, Belfast City, Dublin, Durham Tees Valley, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey, Leeds Bradford, London Heathrow (Island B, desks 1, 3, 5, 7) and Manchester.

Things to remember

  • You can check-in online if you are travelling on a bmi operated route as listed above and you have booked directly at flybmi.com or via a travel agent
  • Your ticket must be an e-ticket
  • If you are travelling on an Economy Saver fare on shorthaul routes we will select your seat for you when you check-in
  • If you are returning within 24 hours we'll check you in for your return flight at the same time (you can still change your flight after check-in if travelling on a flexible fare)

You can't use Online Check-in if:

  • Your booking contains infants as we need to allocate appropriate seating
  • You have requested special medical requirements etc
  • If you hold a paper ticket
